Life Is A Picnic

August 31st, is Eat Outside Day. This made me think of the term “picnic life.” According to urban dictionary “picnic life is to be in a situation that is ironically not as easy as a picnic.” For parents who planned on having children and living a “normal” life and then get a life changing diagnosis about their child can be described as a picnic life. Families who receive news that their child is diagnosed with a lifelong disease or disability experience crisis and have to make fast and serious decisions about how to help their family. The more support they can receive the better it is for the families.

The Center for Parent Information and Resources refer to this as the unplanned journey. This is a journey that all families go on when discovering their child has an illness or disability. It is not an easy journey, and at times it can feel lonely, but it does not have to be. Families who have a child with special needs or illnesses are not alone. This is important for families to be made aware of. Isolation can lead to a spiral of pain that does not need to happen.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals mission is to generate funds and awareness programs in partnership with and for the benefit of a member hospital/foundation and the children they are privileged to serve.

Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System is a proud member hospital that is able to support families who are currently on the unplanned journey. We are able to support families throughout the Tri County. This support comes in the shape of programs, up to date medical equipment, services, and personal medical grants.

Thank you to those who support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals! You are truly a Miracle Maker.
